Frequently Asked Questions   [Back to top]

Do You Have To Be A Christian To Attend KCS?
Kingsway operates on Biblical principles that we will not compromise. Although exceptions may be granted, our entrance policy requires that at least one parent be a Christian and that all students be willing to abide by KCS standards of dress and conduct. Because KCS believes that the Word of God is the basis for all of life’s decisions and actions, all students also participate in daily Bible classes, prayer and chapel.

How Does KCS Handle Doctrinal Issues?
KCS understands that our staff, students and families represent a wide variety of churches and backgrounds. While KCS will respect these differences, we believe that Christ is the one true Son of God and that He died for our sins so we can have eternal life with Him in heaven.

    What Curriculum Does KCS Use?
KCS primarily uses Christian curricula. These are very well-known and respected throughout the United States. But to achieve the highest results possible, we also use other sources, some secular-based, where we feel they present a particular subject in the best way possible. However, all our curricula is subject to a joint teacher/parent review committee before implementation.

How Much Homework Should We Expect?
KCS believes that homework reinforces concepts taught earlier in the day and helps students develop self-discipline that will stay with them throughout life. Therefore, depending on each student and how well they use study time in the classroom, 1st grade students can expect to average 20 to 30 minutes each evening with increasing amounts each year after that.

Does KCS Have A Dress Code?
Yes. For a variety of reasons, KCS utilizes a family-friendly dress code that is both comfortable and affordable. This is fully explained in our information packet that is available through the school office.

Statement of Philosophy and Purpose   [Back to top]

    Luke 2:52 says . . .
“And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” Within this single verse of scripture, the purpose of Kingsway Christian School is clearly presented:

Our purposes are for students to…

    I. …grow in WISDOM as established in Proverbs 2:1-5 and James 3:13.

…to develop in each student an educational process which places the revealed Word of God at its very center, challenging the student and teacher to evaluate everything through the eyes of God because God is Truth. (John 14:6, 10:30, Heb. 4:12,13)
…to provide each student with the basic learning skills including the ability to read, the mastery of math, and the ability to express thoughts orally and in writing. (Prov. 4:1-13, 25:11, Eph. 4:15, Jas. 1:19, Luke 14:28-33)

II. …grow in STATURE as established in I Corinthians 6:19,20.

…to assist each student in developing his or her full potential in body, mind and spirit. (I Cor. 3:16,17, 9:24-27)
…to provide each student with the best possible environment for the attainment of spiritual, academic, and athletic excellence. (Phil. 4:8, Titus 3:1-8, and Rom. 12)

III. …grow in FAVOR WITH GOD as established in Matt. 22:36-40 and 2 Peter 3:18.

…to present to each student the truth about God, life, the world, man and man’s purpose for existence. (Gen. 1-20, John 3:16,17, and Acts 4:12)
…to instill in each student a system of values and worldview consistent with the Word of God and to lead each student to a personal faith in Jesus Christ, God’s Son. (Gal. 5:22-26, Rom. 12:2, Acts 2:36-39, and Phil. 3:8)

IV. …grow in FAVOR WITH MEN as established in Eph. 4:32 and Rom. 14:17-19.

…to instill in each student a strong knowledge of and devotion to our country and our system of government, and an appreciation of our nation’s Christian heritage. (Titus 3:1-2 and Romans 13:1-7)
…to develop in each student an appreciation of the sanctity of the family, the obligations of citizenship, and the mission of the church. (Eph. 5:25-6:4, Matt. 10:1-6, 28:18-20)

    History   [Back to top]

Alan Hughes - KCS Administrator Kingsway Christian School is a ministry of Kingsway Christian Church. We have provided continuous service and ministry to our community since the doors were first opened in September of 1977.

On the first day of school in 1977, there were two teachers and twenty-five students in first through fourth grades. What a marvelous amount of growth has taken place since then! KCS now has over 50 full and part-time teachers and staff, with over 690 students in preschool through eighth grade. We provide before and after school supervision as well.

Kingsway Christian School has been accredited by the State of Indiana since 1983 and by ACSI (the Association of Christian Schools International), the largest Christian School Association in North America since 1997. In addition, the teaching staff is well-credentialed in education and experience.

Because KCS is accredited by the State of Indiana, we participate in the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress (ISTEP+) each fall in grades 3 through 8. Our 1st and 2nd grades participate in the Stanford Achievement Test given each spring. Results from both tests strongly support the quality of our academic program and graduates have gone on to do very well at their next schools. A high percentage of our students are recognized as gifted and talented, and are placed in advanced classes of math, language, music and more.

Kingsway continues to be a school striving to honor God in education and the total environment of our ministry. We praise God for providing excellent teachers, wonderful facilities, and the continued support of Kingsway Christian Church.

However, our “real” credentials are our students. We want our students to be well-adjusted Christian young people, equipped to serve God as successful secondary students, and as successful men and women equipped with Biblical decision-making skills that will guide them and stay with them throughout their lives.

    Curriculum

KCS predominately uses a Christian curriculum and encourages teachers to use supplemental materials for various learning styles and advanced learning opportunities. To keep as current as possible, we review our entire curriculum on a rotating basis, looking at one subject area each year, then choosing which program we feel presents the subject matter with excellence from an academic and spiritual viewpoint. In addition to receiving all the courses required by the State of Indiana, all students also participate in daily Bible classes.
